STPD Joins Facebook Social Network Community
Changes in NIXLE Pricing Plans Influence Decision

Chief of Police Donald F. Pussehl Jr announced this week that the department will begin to phase out the use of the community notification system, NIXLE.

For the past year, Saginaw Township has embraced the free technology as a tool to communicate with residents. STPD has used the program to provide information on various emergency situations and to make community announcements.

While NIXLE has served an adequate purpose it can be cumbersome when emergency text messages need to be sent while officers are on the scene of an active incident. After reviewing various options,it was agreed that Facebook was a logical choice. The format will allow the same type of instant communication via SMS messaging and emails with the added ability to post photographs, maps, and event notices. Facebook can be updated via various "smart phone" technologies and the department will explore a cooperative effort with the Saginaw County 911 Authority to have access to the site from supervisor vehicle vehicles via the mobile data terminals already installed.

Residents are encouraged to search for and "Like" the Saginaw Township Police Department Facebook page.

ONLINE Crime Tips Form Available
Provide anonymous tips on suspected criminal activity

STPD Online Crime Tip Form

As part of our updated website we have included the opportunity for township residents to submit crimetips directly to our Investigations Lieutenant online.

The Saginaw Township Police Department actively seeks interaction with community members. In order to provide residents with a means to offer information on criminal activity, the ONLINE CRIME TIP form has been created.

Users are allowed the opportunity to make anonymous "tips" on current criminal activity or cold cases.

Users should feel confident in knowing that the information provided will be treated discretely and no one will contact you unless you provide a means to do so.

The form is confidential and can be completed in just a couple of minutes. A quick link to the page is located above under the "ONLINE REPORTS" tab or can be found here.

State of Michigan Surplus Property Shop Surplus!
Purchase items offered by the STPD

VEHICLES WILL BE POSTED SOON!

Everyone likes a bargain, but during tough times, people need bargains.  One great source is the “Shop Surplus!” program offered through the State of Michigan.  This is where all surplus property is accumulated, including items confiscated by police, voluntarily abandoned at airports or no longer needed by government agencies such as desks, office chairs, and laptops.  Occasionally, some truly fabulous items pass through surplus, like Rolex watches, flat screen TVs, and even a baby grand piano!  And, of course, we have lots of cars, trucks, vans and lawn care equipment, too.

Want to know more?  Now, for the first time ever, the state is offering electronic notifications of featured items, as well as advance notice of special sales events and auction dates.  You can sign-up for email alerts or simpler yet, follow us on Twitter by having alerts sent right to your cell phone.

Have surplus vehicles, furniture or equipment you need to dispose of? We can help with that too, we have several ways to handle and sell your unwanted items. Call our office for more information on how we can assist you.

The “Shop Surplus!” program includes both live and online auctions as well as a surplus store open to the public several days a week.  For more information, visit www.michigan.gov/surplus.
